Child death reported in Canyon Country

SANTA CLARITA – Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a child in Canyon Country on Wednesday, law enforcement and coroner’s officials said.

A Sheriff’s Department homicide detective said local deputies responded to a report of a child not breathing in the 27900 block of Solamint Road near Sierra Highway about 2 p.m.

A homicide detective was on the scene Wednesday evening, the detective said.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arranged for the coordinated blockage of streets between Solamint and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital so that paramedics could get the child there as soon as possible, a firefighter said.
